A hybrid light sculpture/immersive audio-visual installation, THE NIGHT TERMINAL is a meditation on the multi-layered realities of shelter.
An attempt to reimagine transit spaces; the places between places, eternally on the way towards and the way back, sometimes filled with opportunities for choas, anxiety, uneasiness or expectation, as spaces for stillness and rest.
Employing real-time generated graphics projected onto wood and fabric frames, the installation takes on the physical guise of a futuristic transit shelter/taxi stage-like structure, suspended within beams of light within a soundscape characterised by the sounds of humanity going about the business of living; By re-imagining this space between as a voluntarily accessed time-shelter, it attempts to create and evoke the places one can stay still, without guilt, in a world always on the move . The places we go to breathe and to let go, The spaces of suspended progression; of safety and certainty, where the traveller can rest for a while as the rivers of existence that surround continue to flow by.
