FORTRESS OF BLOOM

Showcasing ideas and works in progress developed during SCARLETMOTIFF’s three-month residency at L’Abri, supported by The Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia; 
FORTRESS OF BLOOM was a residency-concluding immersive open studio installation built around the artist’s experimentation with audio-optical collage, generative lighting automation, and sampling techniques.

Elements of the graphic and soundscape design incorporated field recordings and graphic motifs from the artist's daily experiences living in and traveling around Switzerland. The event poster particularly repurposed  photographs of posters originally created to publicise events in 2024 Fall season of the Geneva cultural scene during the period of the residency, recontextualising them to evoke the feeling of a the rush of information and near chaotic stimulation that characterised the initial moments of immersion in a new cultural context.

The artist employed projection on repurposed curtain fabrics, mirrored surfaces and a scenography filled with work equipment and party associated 'artefacts', creating a tactile spatial and aural environment that drew the audience in and facilitated personal tangents of narrative journeymaking. 

The residency provided a platform for these early investigations, contributing to the ongoing evolution of SCARLETMOTIFF’s practice from a social media and screen based presentations to more materially diverse and physically immersive installation formats.
